a windy day / un día de viento

Un día de viento, sin posibilidad de disfrutar de la playa o la piscina. Decidimos dar otro paseo por Les Rotes, en Dénia, y yo traté de sacar partido de las olas rompiendo contra los acantilados y arrecifes. Me gustó este sitio, llamado "La silla de la Reina", porque mezclaba la fuerza del temporal con la relativa calma  del que está a buen resguardo mientras sopla el viento.

A windy day, no chance of enjoying beach or swimming-pool. We decided to have another walkabout at Les Rotes, Dénia, and I tryed to get something worth of the waves breaking against cliffs and reefs. I liked this place, called "The Queen's chair", because it combined the strength of the storm with the relative calm of a good shelter while the wind blows.

walkabouts / paseos

Fueron días de paseo, tratando de compaginar el paseo familiar con los experimentos con larga exposición. Esto hizo que la hora no fuera la adecuada y que el tiempo de exposición tuviera que limitarse a 1 seg. 2 como máximo. Poco a poco iré rescatando aquellas tomas que sobrevivieron a mi impericia; al menos ésta trasnmite la sensación que tuve durante un ratito, vigilando las olas para mantener secos los pies...

They were days of walkabouts, trying to combine a walk with the family and my experiments with long exposure times. Therefore the hour was not appropriate and thus the exposure was limited to 1 or 2 secs. I'll try to rescue those shots that survived my lack of skills; at least this one shows the sensation I felt for a while, keeping an eye on the ways to keep my feet dry...

personal challenge / reto personal

Posiblemente, y quitendo las fotos de los niños (este verano han colaborado como unos campeones) esta sea una de mis fotos favoritas del verna. Estaba tratando de sacarle partido a este trampolín cuando esta señora inglesa me pidió permiso para saltar; supongo que no quería estropearme la foto, y en realidad fue ella la que me la dio.


Possibly, apart from the shots of my kids (they've really behaved and helped this summer) this is one of my favourite shots of this summer. I was trying to do something worth with this springboard when this English lady asked me for permission to jump; I guessed she didn't wand to expoil my picture, but she truly gave me the shot.

de vuelta de vacaciones / back from holidays

De vuelta de unas cortas -siempre lo son- e intensas vacaciones, os dejo una primera foto sin apenas procesado, tomada en el Parque natural del Cabo de Gata, concretamente en la playa de Isleta del Moro. Un entorno privilegiado con un acceso realmente feo.

Back from a short -they always are- and intense holiday, here you have a first shot with just a slight processing, taken at the Parque natural del Cabo de Gata, more precisely at the beach of Isleta del Moro. A wonderful environment with a really ugly access road.

buscando el Zen / looking for Zen

El verano ya está aquí... pronto estaré disfrutando de puestas de sol como esta (y otras cosas que no puedo mencionar, jajaja). Espero que al fin pueda encontrar de nuevo mi zen y respirar un poco de paz y tranquilidad.

Summer is here... soon I'll be enjoying sunsets like this (and other things I cannot mention, hahaha). I hope I'll finally be able to find mi zen and breathe a little bit of peace and tranquil mood.

reflejo de hora azul / blue hour reflection

La hora azul es una hora mágica para los fotógrafos; para los buenos porque permite plasmar momentos y escenarios espectaculares con una luz de gran calidad; para los no tan buenos, como es mi caso, porque dotan a nuestras fotos de una magia especial que transforma un paisaje en principio insípido en un lugar "de esos que salen en las pelis"... Me gustó tanto que ni la toqué, sólo un ligero reencuadre para reforzar la sensación de que la silueta de los árboles y su reflejo nos encaminan a la luz al final del lago. Espero que os guste.

The blue hour is a magical hour for us photographers; for the good ones because it helps them to capture espectacular moments and scenarios with a high quality light; for those not-so-good, as in my case, because it gives our pictures a special magic transforming a landscape that wasnt nothing special at first sight into  one of those places "you can see in movies"... I liked it so much I didn't touch it, just a little reframing to strengthen the sensation of the tree's silouettes and reflection driving us to the light at the other side of the lake. Hope you like it.

¿Fiereza o hambre?

arena mojada / wet sand

Arena húmeda. Estaba buceando en mi archivo -ya tengo la cámara, ahora sólo tengo que encontrar tiempo- buscando algo que me apeteciera procesar, y me encontré con esta foto tomada hace ya un par de años en la playa de La Barrosa, en Chiclana (Cádiz). Estaba ya atardeciendo y el sol reflejaba en la arena húmeda. Se que no es una toma fácil de aceptar, casi abstracta -o sin el casi-, pero mientras la procesaba, un reflejo aquí, más relieve allí, contraste, mi mirada no dejaba de vagar por todos esos caminos que el agua decidía libremente seguir, creando muchos distintos tonos del... color de arena mojada.

Wet sand. I was diving in mi archive -I already have the camera, now it's just a matter of finding the time- looking for something I felt worth to process, and I found this shot I took a couple of years ago at La Barrosa Beach (Chiclana, Cádiz). It was almost sunset and the sun reflected on the wet sand. I know it is not an easy picture to accept, almost abstract -or not almost at all-, but while I processed it, a reflection here, more steep here, contrast, mi eyes were continously wandering those roads the water freely decided to follow, creating several different tones of... wet sand color.

huyendo de la luna / escaping from the moon

No tener la cámara me está haciendo bucear cada vez más en el cajón de los trastos, a ver si encuentro algo que merezca la pena procesar y enseñar. Esta noche la sorpresa fue tremenda, porque encontré esta foto de unas gaviotas en Chiclana. Se había quedado ahí durmiendo el sueño de los justos, porque cuando la tomé no era capaz de procesarla adecuadamente. Pero como digo muchas veces "cuando la foto está ahí, está ahí y sólo hay que encontrarla". Podrá gustaros o no, pero debo deciros que es una de las fotos de las que me siento más orgulloso. La tomé durante una sesión de fotos que hice con los niños mientras anochecía en la playa de la Barrosa; de pronto miré al cielo y las vi, acercándose a mí como si huyeran de la luna; de manera refleja encuadré, enfoqué y disparé. Así de simple. Y este es el resultado, una vez he aprendido lo básico del procesamiento de fotos... Encantado de bucear en el cajón de los trastos...

Not having the camera is making me dive deeper and deeper in the junk box, looking for something worth processing and showing. Tonight the surprise was terrific, because I found this picture of some seagulls in Chiclana (Cádiz). It had been there, forgotten for a long time, because when I shot it I wasn't able to process it properly. But as I use to say, "when the picture is there, it is there and you only have to find it". You may like it or not, but I have to say it is one of the pictures I'm proud of. I took it during a session with the kids at the beach (Playa de la Barrosa); suddenly I looked at the sky and I saw them, coming to me as if they escaped from the moon; so acting on instinct I framed, focused and shot. Simple as that. An this is the result, once I've learnt the basics of photo-processing... Delighted to dive into the junk box!

Premios y experimentos / Awards and experiments

Bueno, hoy lo hacemos al revés, primero el texto y después la foto. Lo hago así porque El Inquilino ha recibido dos premios
- Paco Sales nos ha concedido el premio "Primavera". Muchas gracias Paco, ojalá llegue algún día a tener tu dominio de la técnica y esa sensibilidad que hace que siempre encuentres un encuadre adecuado y que tus fotos me dejen sin aire y con la boca abierta de admiración.
- Pablo R, del blog A golpes de pedal nos ha concedido el premio Sunshine Award. Muchas gracias Pablo, por hacernos disfrutar de algo tan apasionante como el Mountain Bike con buenos textos, buenas fotos y buenos videos; y sobre todo con esa pasión que destila cada entrada de tu blog.

Por mi parte, creo que lo justo es dedicaros los premios a vosotros, los que lleváis visitando al Inquilino más de un año, aguantando sus dudas, inquietudes y experimentos en busca de esa foto que cautive y atrape. Así que va por vosotros, y a todos vosotros os dedico el último experimento, que intenta ser un HDR "puro", sin tratar de alterar la realidad con un procesado fuera de mi alcance pero intentando captar todo el rango de luces y colores que sólo nuestro ojo es capaz de captar en momentos tan esplendorosos como este.

Así que "Damas y Caballeros, ¡¡¡va por ustedes!!!"

I think what's fair in this case is to share these awards with you, who have visited El Inquilino for more than a year, backing me up in my doubts, concerns and experiments along the quest of that shot that grasps the viewer's attention. So these are for you, and for you is my last experiment, that tries to be a "pure" HDR, not wanting to alter reality with a processing that's far away of my skills but trying to capture the whole range of light and color that only our eye is able to see in moments as magical as this one.

So, "Ladies and Gentlemen, this one's for you!!!"

maestro de nada / master of nothing

Aprendiz de todo, maestro de nada; no termino de aclararme sobre qué tipo de fotografía es la que me llama: flores, paisajes, robados callejeros, arquitectura... y claro, acabo hecho un lío. A veces envidio a esos compañeros que lo tienen claro y se especializan, llegando a dominar un estilo fotográfico, no solo en el tema sino, sobre todo, en la forma. De momento seguiremos cruzando este desierto de creatividad y qué mejor manera de luchar contra el desierto que con un Palacio Real y una Catedral en la misma foto... Está tomada desde el parquecito que rodea el Templo de Debod, en Madrid. Espero que os guste.

Student of everything, master of nothing; I still haven't found out the kind of photography that grasps me: flowers, landscapes, street shots, architecture... and of course my mind is a huge mess. Sometimes I feel envy for those colleagues that have a clear idea and specialize, finally mastering a photographic style, not only the theme, but most important, how to show it. For the moment we'll continue crossing this desert of creativity and I haven't found a better way to fight a desert than capturing a Royal Palace and a Cathedral in the same shot... It was taken from a little nearby park surrounding th Temple of Debod, in Madrid. Hope you like it.

Africa en Madrid / Africa in Madrid

Mi cámara se rompió, y ahora está en manos del Servicio Técnico de Nikon. Hoy me han dado el presupuesto y ahora sólo queda esperar a que la arreglen y me la devuelvan. Llevo más de una semana sin sacar fotos y es peor que dejar de fumar...

Lo bueno es que, antes de romperse, pude fotografiar este momento cuando Africa decidió amanecer en San Sebastián de los Reyes (Madrid). Teniendo esta ventana en mi casa, ¿quién necesita viajar?

My camera broke, and it's now in hands of Nikon's Technical Service. They call me today to provide the budget and now it's a matter of waiting until they fix it and give it back to me. I haven't shot for more than a week and it's worst than quitting smoking!...

The good thing is that, before breaking down, I could capture this moment when Africa decided to dawn in San Sebastian de los Reyes (Madrid, Spain). Having this window at home, who needs to travel?

Siesta

Hay veces en que lo mejor que uno puede hacer es pararse y echarse una siestecita; al despertar, todo se suele ver mejor que al dormirse y tenemos un plus de energía para enfrentarse al resto del día...

There are moments when the best you can do is to stop and have a siesta (I think "nap" is the English word); once you wake up you usually see everything looks better that before and we have an extra shot of energy to face the rest of the day...

Para los que se van / For those who leave

¿Cómo te sientes cuando alguien a quien aprecias, o amas, o quieres, o que significa algo bueno en tu vida, en el aspecto que sea, te deja? Al menos, siempre te quedará el reflejo de lo que fue... y finalmente te das cuenta de que no es malo, porque al menos sabes que fuiste capaz de ver algo bueno en otra persona.

How do you feel when somebody you appreciate, or love, or who means something good in your life, no matter the subject, leaves you? At least, you'll always have the reflection of what it was... and finally you realize that it is not bad at all, as at least you know that you were able to see something good in another person...

No deberías / you shouldn't

No deberías hacerme esta foto, aquí en el tenis, con este tipo aburrido a mi lado... ¿y si se da cuenta? ¿Y si se da cuenta de que te estoy mirando mientras la haces?

Cosas que pasan...

You shouldn't take this picture, here at the tennis, with this boring guy by my side... what if he notices? What if he notices that I'm looking at you while you take it?

Ahora en color... / Now in color...

Sí, es la misma del Viernes, pero en color. Y para aquellos que penséis que es distinta, es porque decidí borrar el coche del puente, que no me gustaba... Creo que gana en color, de momento el B/N puede conmigo... ¡lo seguiré intentando!

Yes, it's the same than Friday's, but in color. For those who might think it's a different one, it's because I decided to clone the car on the bridge, which I didn't like... I think it's better in color, currently the B/N is stronger than I... I'll keep trying!

Catedral de León Nocturna - León's cathedral night shot

No processions this Easter due to the rain... what a pity; at least Friday night didn't rain and I ran to see if I could get some night pictures of León. This is the Cathedral, in my humble opinion the most beautiful gothic cathedral in Spain. People don't use to shot from this point, given that the whole building is not visible at a 100%, but I chose to shot it from here because the tree covers the scaffolds that are being used for the cathedral's restoration. It is also a "less typical" point of view...

Sin procesiones esta Semana Santa por la lluvia... qué lástima; al menos el Viernes por la noche no llovía y salí corriendo a sacar algunas fotos nocturnas de León. Esta es la Catedral, en mi humilde opinión la catedral gótica más bonita de España. La gente normalmente no saca fotos desde este punto, ya que no se ve el edificio completo al 100%, pero elegí este encuadre porque el árbol cubre los andamios que están utilizando para la restauración de la catedral. Es también un punto de vista "menos típico"...

leer y tomar el sol / reading and sumbathing

Bueno, pues me voy de vacaciones. En principio pensaba hacer muchas fotos, ya que estos días suelen ser muy productivos por la Semana Santa, pero parece que vamos a tener lluvia, lluvia y lluvia. Así que por si acaso haré como esta chica y también me llevaré un buen libro. Eso sí, ¡¡¡no penséis que me voy a poner bikini!!! Felices días.

Well, I'm leaving on holidays. I was thinking on taking lots of pictures, given that these days are usually pretty productive due to Easter, but it seems we're going to have rain, rain and rain. So just incase I'll do like this girl and I'll take a good book as well. But, don't even think I'll wear a bikini!!! Happy days.

La ducha de después / Afterwards shower
